2017-2018 Upcoming Events & Registration Information

Vote for the 2017-2018 School Calendar

The District Site-Based Decision Making Committee and the District of Innovation Planning Committee have worked together to create 3 calendar options for the 2017-2018 school year.
Below is a quick summary.
All three calendar options have the school day from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Option A is a traditional calendar with the start date of August 28, 2017, as per current law.
The students have 169 school days with 76,050 minutes of instruction.
Teachers have 18 professional development/workdays.
Teachers work 187 days per current law.
The school year ends on May 24, 2018.
Option B is a district of innovation calendar with a start date of August 21, 2017.
The students have 168 school days with 75,600 minutes of instruction.
Teachers have 17 professional development/workdays.
Teachers work 185 days per DoI approval by the Board.
The school year ends on May 25, 2018.
Option C is also a district of innovation calendar with a start date of August 14, 2017.
The students have 170 school days with 76,080 minutes of instruction.
Teachers have 16 professional development/workdays.
Teachers work 185 days per DoI approval by the Board.
The school year ends on May 18, 2018.
IF the Board does not approve the District of Innovation Plan, we will follow Option A due to current law.
With that said, calendar voting will only take place between Options B or C.
Voting will close on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 2:00 p.m.

Join our District of Innovation Planning Committee

The Board of Trustees held a public hearing this evening, Monday, April 3, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. in the elementary cafeteria.  It was decided that PISD would seek to develop an innovation plan.  The Board appointed the District Site-Based Committee to be part of the  District of Innovation Planning Committee.  They have also extended the invitation to any parent, student, community member, or district employee who wish to be a part of the planning committee.  

If you are interested in joining the committee to help develop this plan, please e-mail Superintendent Velasco at jvelasco@pettusisd.com with your name and contact number.  This invitation closes on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 4:00 p.m.

The District of Innovation Planning Committee will meet in the elementary library at 5:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Meeting #1: Tuesday, April 11, 2017 

Meeting #2: Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Meeting #3: Tuesday, April 25, 2017


UIL Academics Heading to State!

We had a proper send off to our three UIL teams—Calculator Apps, Mathematics, and Number Sense. Our two-time state Calculator Apps team is seeking a 3-Peat. It was a sight to see all of our students supporting our UIL teams!

Our State Qualifiers are as follows:

Our Calculator Apps team is comprised of Kirstee Dunlap, Joshua Davis, Ethan Ho, and Alexi Alsobrook.  Our Number Sense team has Jesus Martinez, Hudson Sisk, Jason Fleischer, and Neil Huskey in its ranks.  Alexi Alsobrook, Joshua Davis, Kirstee Dunlap and Lucas Boyd make up our Mathematics team.
